Who We Are


Birmingham Action for Social Integration is the ASI's branch that was established to serve ASI's members living in West Midlands. The Branch offers support, information sharing and discussion on issues relevant to Black Women and children. It is an information, support and referral service especially for women. We also offer training, crisis support, self-help groups and volunteering opportunities. The branch was established to promote, maintain and advance the welfare of Black Women in the City of Birmingham and the surrounding areas. The Branch aims to be non-discriminatory in relation to race, ability, sexuality, class and religion.

Branch Objectives
  1. To advance education and social welfare, and provide or assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life of such persons and facilitate their integration into the British society.
  2. To relieve poverty, hardship and distress of African women resident in West Midlands Region by the provision of regarding their educational, training and employment needs as well as advice on health matters, housing and immigration and advocacy.
  3. The provision of counselling in the areas of family issues, health issues, and domestic violence, and to find refuges for victims of domestic violence.
  4. To encourage the moral development of such children and young people by the provision of information and advice in matters relating to health, education and drug abuse.
  5. To alleviate hardship and distress caused to African children living in the West Midlands by separation from their parents and families and to preserve and protect the health, both mental and physical, of such children; to advance education of African children living in the region.
Services
  • Advice and Guidance
    • We provide information about most matters of interest to women.
    • Where appropriate, we refer women to other agencies.
    • We can help you with Housing, Benefits Advice, Immigration Advice and also referrals to other agencies if this would best suit you.
    • We organise women meetings every month where women can, and do, drop in to meet other women in a friendly atmosphere; to find out what is happening in Birmingham; to share their own experience and knowledge and to help one another. The monthly members meetings aim to discuss issues related to benefits, housing, education and training, domestic violence, lone parenting, Sexual Transmitted Diseases, etc.
    • We organise outreach work in the community, counselling and case work, with support for education, employment and training.
    • We provide support for asylum seekers and referrals with arranging interpreting services.
    • We organise outings, social evenings and fundraising activities.
  • Careers Advice
    For those looking to start or go back to work, we can offer help and advice to help you on your way.
  • Training Support
    We can help you train for a new job and give you support during your training. We organise supplementary school for children and young people.
  • CVs/Applications/Job Search
    We can help you to compile your CV (Curriculum Vitae), help you to complete Application Forms and also help you in your search for a job.
  • Leisure and recreation
    We organise cultural, media and leisure activities for children, young people and adults including visits of cultural and natural heritage.

    All women are welcome regardless of age, race or ethnic background. Children are also welcome.
